Awkward

Today my brother and I went to the zoo and as it was one of our mutual friend's birthday we decided to have a little fun by making a "Happy Birthday Mollie" sign and taking photos with it and various animals. Our first stop was the sun bear and as he was pacing up and down in front of the window we lined the sign up along the floor there and started snapping away. Just as we were doing this a small boy ran up and asked excitedly "oh is it his birthday?!"

I wish I had responded like this:
"Yeah it's his birthday and since sun bears are well known for having the talent of reading back to front THROUGH coloured paper I decided to make this sign that says 'Happy Birthday Mollie' for this MALE sun bear. As you are old enough to read 'Happy Birthday' I'm sure you are old enough to read 'Mollie' and should be able to recognise it as a girls name unless you are thinking of Molly Meldrum whose name isn't actually Molly, it's a nickname, has it spelt differently and is completely out of any zone of reference you might be pulling from as you are all of about 7 so I'm guessing you didn't mean him!"

My actual response:
"......um no....it's one of our friends.....so we made this sign for her" *awkward smile*

I think I made the right choice by sparing the kids feelings (plus his dad looked super big and mean with killer tatts)
